Good morning and welcome to St Barnabas Stoke – if you are visiting today we hope you encounter God’s goodness and love for you as you join us in worshiping Him, please feel free to stick around afterwards for a coffee and a chat.

I hope everyone is shaking off the winter coughs and colds. If you are in need of some soup, or know someone that is under the weather, please lets us know and we can drop some around. Thanks to all the soup makers that have stocked up the church freezer. Thank you also to the     people that help stock the church food bank, we have been able to give away several food parcels over the last couple of weeks to those that have needed a bit of help. Your little donation can be a big blessing in someone’s life.

We have been working our way through this little letter 1 Thessalonians, that Paul wrote as an   encouragement to this little church he planted and was only with for a couple of weeks, yet Paul has this deep love for this church and the faith they have. So far Paul has been saying how grateful he is for this group of Christian’s but then we get to Chapter 4 things pick up a bit, Paul writes “Therefore, brothers and sisters”… It’s like Paul is now going to get to the things he has been really wanting to say.  Paul tells them about avoiding sexual immorality, about those who sleep in death, about the times and dates, then a whole lot of little instructions about all sorts of things. So there is a great deal for us to look at over the next couple of weeks and so pretty hot topics that are very relevant for us today.

The world famous (in Stoke) St Barnabas Quiz night is on again! Get your team of up to 8 people together for Saturday the 3 August. The Quiz night is an easy way for us to invite those that might not have a lot to do with church into our church. For a lot of  people this can be a bit of an eye opener that church people are normal (mostly!), friendly and  like to have a fun time. These little things can change people’s preconceived ideas. It would be great to have the church packed full – so get your team organized this week.

It’s School Holidays for the next fortnight . I hope that everyone with children and grandchildren enjoy the holidays. During the holidays there are no Tuesday prayer Meetings. They will start again at 7.30am on Tuesday 23 July. You are all welcome to attend.

God Bless

Phil
