Good morning and welcome to St Barnabas Stoke – if you are visiting today we hope you encounter God’s goodness and love for you as you join us in worshipping Him, please feel free to stick around afterwards for a coffee and a chat.

Last week we had our yearly gift / vision day, and I talked about the five things we will be working towards over the next couple of years. Five things:

  • The Chapel
  • Youth Work
  • Senior’s Work
  • Discipleship
  • Reaching out – Evangelism

It’s like the little series we have just done out of Nehemiah. I ask that we all pray, that we commit our plains to God, that we work together for the same goals, and then we celebrate together all that God has done and is doing in and through us his people. All for his Glory and his kingdom.

One of the things I didn’t talk about was giving financially. This year rather than run a pledge card sort of gift day for a special project I am going to ask you two consider two things when thinking about your giving to the church.

  1. That you might review your giving to the Church, and,

2 If you don’t give financially to the life of the Church that you think about doing so through a regular direct credit payment. Our bank details are on the back of the pew sheet.

When it comes to giving, my theological understanding primarily comes 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

As many of you know, Luke is moving on to a new venture and we would love to bless him with a gift. If you would like to donate towards this there is a container marked Luke’s Gift at the back of church or write Luke on your envelope.

We are looking for a couple of volunteers to do some cleaning over the holidays, to keep the church nice and clean. If you are around over the first couple of weeks of January and have a spare couple of hours we would love to hear from you. Call David in the office for details.

Yours in Christ

Philip
