Good morning and welcome to St Barnabas Stoke – if you are visiting today we hope you encounter God’s goodness and love for you as you join us in worshipping Him, please feel free to stick around afterwards for a coffee and a chat.

Today we will be looking at the second part of 1 Corinthians 12

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.  Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. -1 Corinthians 12:12-14

Many different parts but one Spirit…

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. -1 Corinthians 12:27

You are a part of it – yes you!

We have verse 27 on the wall out in the foyer, for a good reason – so that each week as we meet
together on a Sunday we are reminded that each and every one of us plays a part in the life of the Church. It is not the Vicar, or the wardens, or the Vestry that make the church what it is, but every one of us doing what we are called to do, to play our part in the body of Christ to make it all it can be.

Last week I went through some of the stuff we are involved in as a Church, We have at the moment:

  • Three new home groups
  • Alpha
  • Christianity Explored – outreach groups
  • Still Point Meditation Group
  • Helping breakfast club Birchwood School
  • Melody Makers growing
  • New chaplaincy at Summerset
  • New church roof and carpet
  • Partnering with 24/7 youth
  • Wicked Tooth Fairy support
  • Youth Band
  • Ukulele Band
  • Youth group growing
  • Out to Lunch
  • Weekly Wednesday morning tea
  • The Ambient worship nights

I don’t often stop and think about the good things that are happening, but these things are the things I have been praying for, they are the things we have been working for, and it is good to celebrate them. God has been doing stuff in peoples lives and this is what Church should be all about. Of course there is always more that God wants to do, there are issues that we have to deal with, but we need to celebrate the good things as well.

So we do give thanks that we worship the living God, a God that is touching people’s lives, a God that loves us, that longs to see all come to know him. We give thanks for all that God is doing through us. We are his people, his Church and we are called to shine our light in the dark places. And we ask for more, that God will continue to draw close, that his hand may draw near and we might see his kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven

Yours in Christ

Phil
