Good morning and welcome to St Barnabas Stoke. If you are visiting today we hope you encounter God’s almighty grace for you and loving presence as you join us in worship. Please feel free to chat with us afterwards over a coffee and meet some of our people.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. - 1 Corinthians 2:10 –14

It’s funny that you can read the bible for a long time and not see something right in front of you. As we have been working our way through Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians Paul brings to light this spiritual truth. We are people of the Spirit, not of the world, our wisdom and thinking comes from God… What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. I don’t know about you but I need to be reminded of this truth daily.

Last Sunday we had a time of ministry in the services, and I want to share a couple of things. The first was a need for confession, As we were worshiping I had this deep need to confess that I was not very good at living by the Spirit, that it is sometimes easy to have knowledge and to apply that wisdom in my own ways, not Gods ways.

Secondly as we worshiped I lifted up my hands a little (just a little), and as we worshiped I could feel my hands go from being lifted a little, to being fully raised. It was as though as my arms went up there was a new freedom to worship more fully. It was like the Spirit was lifting my hands to fully praise and worship to God. I would love to hear what God has been speaking and revealing to you as we pray and ask God to dwell in us.

Tonight is the Ambient combined worship night, all are welcome to come and spend some time worshiping, in the presence of God.

Don’t forget about the prayer meeting Tuesday 7.30am – all are welcome to come and pray.

Yours in Christ

Phil
