Good morning and welcome to St Barnabas Stoke. If you are visiting today we hope you encounter God’s almighty grace for you and loving presence as you join us in worship. Please feel free to chat with us afterwards over a coffee and meet some of our people.

Last week we had our AGM. One of the things I said at the AGM about Vestry I would like to repeat again today. It has been a great privilege to be part of a great team of people that all bring different things to the table and work together for the good of the Church and for the mission of the church. We are blessed to have this group of people given their time and skills to the life of the Church. Thanks to all of you.

Vestry is the group that help run the Church to keep everything on track and in good order. They are also charged with helping with the spiritual well being of the church. When things are going well the vestry can become a little bit invisible, but when there are some issues happening it is the vestry that has to front up and sort it out. We have a great group of people that care deeply about the life and well being of St Barnabas, and I am very thankful to all of them. Please do feel free to say a big thank you to your vestry members as they are doing a great job.

Last week we looked at this amazing chapter from 1 Corinthians:

…For who knows a person’s thoughts except their  own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. -1 Corinthians 2:11-16

We have the spirit living in us bring the wisdom and power of the cross to life in us and through us, we have the spirit so that we can have the mind of Christ in all things. This is amazing news for all that are been saved.

Don’t forget out to lunch next week on Wednesday at 11.45am make sure you take the opportunity to invite someone.

Have a great week

Yours in Christ

Phil
