Good morning and welcome to St Barnabas Stoke. If you are visiting today we hope you encounter God’s almighty grace for you and loving presence as you join us in worship. Please feel free to chat with us afterwards over a coffee and meet some of our people.

We are back in the church for the first time in six weeks, it has been a good time over in the hall, with many people telling me how much they enjoyed meeting in the hall and how it has been a more intimate place to worship. No doubt the work on the roof will still be going on for a week or two more. Hopefully by the end of the school holidays we will be back to normal. Thank you to all for the generous support for the Made New Project. We will be able to update the finances for this in the next couple of months.

Last weekend we had the youth band leading the worship and other parts of the service. This has been something Luke has been building over the last year and it was great to see so many youth stepping up with their great skills on the many different instruments. We will be looking forward to next time. As Georgia said, please do keep praying for our youth that they will grow deeper in their faith and relationships with each other.

On Thursday night we had our AGM. There is much to be thankfully for in the life of St Barnabas, and I am so thankful for the vestry team we have had over the last couple of years. These people are giving their time and skills to the good management and spiritual wellbeing of the church. I am also thankful for all the little jobs that get done every week by people that just do them, for all the people that help run the services, lead home communions, sing in the choir, pour the tea, clean the brass, wash the tea towels etc. Together every part doing its part to make the body work. Thank you to all that contribute to the life of the church.

From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. - Ephesians 4: 16

Today we will be looking a 1 Corinthians 2 which starts with one of my favourite passages:

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power. 1 Corinthians 2:1-5

We are looking for a car, and accommodation for Georgia. If anyone can help please call me and I can give you more details.

Yours in Christ

Phil
