The Inside Column 1/4

Hi and good morning. If you are visiting us today we hope you feel welcome. Feel free to stay after the service for a coffee and to get to know some of our people.

He has risen, he has risen indeed, He has risen, he has risen indeed

At Easter we celebrate the risen Jesus, the one that came that we might have life. In the passage we looking at today John 20: 30-31 we read about the Purpose of John’s Gospel:

Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.  -John 20: 30-31

What is this life John speaks about, this life in his name? The first part is belief in his name, that we believe the promises of God about salvation, the truth of what Jesus has done for us, this is what we believe. But this is only half of it . What we believe leads us to Life, the doing, the acting, the living out of what we believe. This question of life in his name, is one that is always before us, always challenging us, always calling us. How do we live out this life? Our prayer is that all of us will be empowered through the Holy Spirit to live out our calling in his name and for his glory.

On a different note, the AGM is just a couple of weeks away. Please check your details in the  Parish Roll. If you want to be added to the roll fill out a blue enrolment form. One of the things that happens at the AGM is that people are nominated for Vestry (Vestry is the leadership team that helps run the church) and each year, even if people have been on vestry before they have to be nominated again. If you think you would like to be on Vestry you will need to get someone to nominate you. If you would like to nominate someone for Vestry you can do so as well. The People’s Warden (the people’s voice in the vicar’s ear) is nominated and voted for at the AGM. All nominations need to be in by Monday 9 April. If you have a question for the meeting please fill in a question slip. All forms are at the back of the hall.

May God the Father, by whose love Christ was raised from the dead, open to you who believe the gates of everlasting life. God the Son, who in bursting from the grave and won a glorious victory, give you joy as you share the Easter faith. God the Holy Spirit, who filled the disciples with the life of the risen Lord, empower you and fill you with Christ’s peace.

Happy Easter!

Phil
