Hi and good morning from the Vicar. If you are visiting us today we hope you feel welcomed and encouraged as you encounter God’s presence with us and hang out with our whanau. Feel free to stick around afterwards for a coffee and to get to know some of our people.

I hope you all have had some time off, and have spent some time with family and friends, that you feel refreshed and excited about the New Year. A big thank you to all the people that keep the church going over the holidays. It is great to have such a great and talented group of people to take charge, thank you all very much.

On Wednesday 14 February (Ash Wednesday) our diocese is holding  a day of prayer and fasting to begin Lent. In the past when we have had a day of prayer and fasting across the diocese, we rostered each parish from around the diocese (half an hour each) to ensure the day was soaked in prayer.

This year we are holding a Day of Prayer and Fasting at the Cathedral. Here is the programme for the day:

7.00am  Morning Prayer and imposition of ashes for those who wish.

8.00am  Prayer on the hour. (Short prayers led  by lay people. This will be the pattern each hour).

  9.00am  Prayer on the hour

10.00am  Eucharist  and imposition of ashes

11.00am  Prayer on the hour

12.00pm. Eucharist with +Richard and imposition of ashes.

1.00pm  Prayer on the hour    (Continues on the hour until 7.00pm)

7.00pm  Combined service with the Roman Catholics with the imposition of ashes. (The service will conclude with tea and biscuits).

9.00pm   The evening of prayer will conclude with Night Prayer at 9.00pm.

We are looking for volunteers to assist throughout the day. Sign up sheet in the foyer.

Convergence Camp is only 3 weeks away starting on Friday 16 February through to Sunday 18 February at Bethany Park, Kaiteriteri. There is still time to register before the closing date of Monday 12 February. Forms are in the foyer.

On Sunday 18 February we are holding a combined service at 9.30am as many of our church family will be at Convergence Camp.

Saturday 3 March is the date for our annual Banquet in the Garden mission fundraiser for our mission partners Bright Hope World. Last year we raised $2800 to help towards a women’s empowerment project in Northern India. Get a group of friends together and come along for a great evening of food, live music and fun. Book at the office.

Yours in Christ

Phil
