Good morning and a very warm welcome to you.  We invite you to join us after the service for a hot drink and fellowship.

Alpha – What is it?

A ten week course introducing Christianity. Each session begins with a meal, providing an opportunity to get to know others in a casual setting. This is followed by a talk, on DVD, which examines a different aspect of the Christian faith, then there is ample time to disagree, agree and discuss.

Some of the questions we’ll explore are:

  • How Does God Guide Us?
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why and How Do I Pray?
  • How Can I Develop A Relationship With God?
  • What about the Church?
  • Is There More To Life Than This?

Over 27 million people have attended Alpha in tens of thousands of churches, cafes, workplaces and pubs around the world.

Today, as we start the build up to the Alpha Couse; there are signup sheets in the foyer. If you would like to come on the course please signup on the Signup Sheet and tick the Course column. If you are bringing a friend, sign them up as well. The course starts at 6.30pm on Wednesday 6 May with Dinner. We are looking for a small group of people to help with  serving the meal and set up, if you are interested put you name down on the Signup Sheet and  tick the Help column.

If you are a cook and are happy to cook a meal for up to 40 people can you come and see me as we need a Head Cook. You might not be needed for the whole course as we are hoping to spread the work load. We are planning a mail box drop on Thursday  20 April in the afternoon. Put the date in your diary, more details to come. Finally if you are thinking of inviting someone to the course get praying, get inviting— go for it with boldness, what is the worst thing that can happen, they might say no.

This week we are looking at Jesus praying on the Mount of Olives.

Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, ‘Pray that you will not fall into temptation.’ He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.’ An angel from heaven  appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.  - Luke 22: 39

 Yours in Christ

Philip
