The Inside Column 11/12

Good morning and a very warm welcome to you. We invite you to join us after the service for a hot drink and fellowship.

Today is our Christingle service. If you are visiting us today we pray that you feel welcome and that you will know the love of God today.

Christmas is such a busy time for many people. We get busy doing all sorts of thing and sometimes we can forget that at the heart of Christmas is the birth of a baby, a little baby born some two thousand years ago. This baby grew up and changed the world more than any other person in history.

The really good news about Christmas is that we can not only celebrate the birth of Jesus, but we can know him today. This is the Good News -that through the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus every one of us can know him and be known by him today. We celebrate Jesus today because through him we can be reconnected to God, and this is where we find life and life in its fullest. We celebrate the birth of Jesus not only because he changed the world but because he can change us today.

If you would like to find out more about this Jesus and the claims of the Christian faith, I would love to invite you to come along to the Alpha Couse. We will be running this Couse at the start of May 2017 and it is a great way to explore the big questions of life in a friendly and open way. Keep an eye on the website for date details. We also have some booklets in the foyer Why Christmas? and Why Jesus? You’re welcome to take one.

Mary’s Song

And Mary said:
‘My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit
rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
to Abraham and his descendants for ever,
just as he promised our ancestors.’
– Luke 1:46-55

Good news for all people on earth then and now

Philip
