The Inside Column 4/12

Good morning and a very warm welcome to you. We invite you to join us after the service for a hot drink and fellowship.

The Lord remembers us and will bless us:
he will bless his people Israel,
he will bless the house of Aaron,
he will bless those who fear the Lord –
small and great alike.
May the Lord cause you to flourish,
both you and your children.
May you be blessed by the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
The highest heavens belong to the Lord,
but the earth he has given to the human race.
It is not the dead who praise the Lord,
those who go down to the place of silence;
it is we who extol the Lord,
both now and for evermore.
Praise the Lord.

- Psalm 115:12–18

God loves to bless. The psalmist repeats over and over again that the ‘Lord … will bless us … he will bless … he will bless those who fear the Lord – small and great alike’. He goes on, ‘May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth’. God loves to bless We are children of God we are called to be like our Father in heaven, who loves to bless. It is he who works in us to will and to act according to his good purpose.

What might we do this Christmas session, to be a blessing to those we know, to be a blessing to those we don’t know, it might only be the smallest of things, it might be something more grand, but we all have the opportunity to be a blessing to someone this Christmas and in doing so we not only remind ourselves how blessed we are by God, but that we are called to be a blessing to others.
