The Inside Column 30/10

Good morning and a very warm welcome to you.  We invite you to join us after the service for a hot drink and fellowship.

Well the church fair has come and gone for another year, a big thank you to all that were involved. There is no small amount of work to put on the fair, and it is only as we all work together that we can put on an event like this. We raised nearly $5000, but in some ways it does not really matter. What matters just as much is the team work and the hope of blessing people in our community. Well done everyone!

Last week Stephan Tanner led the prayers, and some of you have ask about the last bit he prayed. So here it is:

I asked for strength
and God gave me difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for wisdom
and God gave me problems to solve.
I asked for prosperity
and God gave me brawn and brains to work.
I asked for courage
and God gave me dangers to overcome.
I asked for patience
and God placed me in situations where I was forced to wait.
I asked for love
and God gave me troubled people to help.
I asked for favors
and God gave me opportunities.
I asked for everything so I could enjoy life.
Instead, He gave me life so I could enjoy everything.
I received nothing I wanted,
I received everything I  needed.

This week we are looking at the fruit of the spirit Gentleness. Paul says in Philippians 4: 5 “Let your gentleness be evident to all” At the end of a lot of Paul’s letters he encourages the saints with things that we should be becoming if we are in Christ. People will see these things growing in you, as the Holy Spirit does His work in you. Paul often says “Let your gentleness be evident to all”, “clothe yourself with Gentleness” and “show gentleness”. This is a real challenge to us all. My prayer is that we will all grow this fruit – the Spirit of Gentleness.

Yours in Christ

Phil
