Good morning and a very warm welcome to you. We invite you to join us after the service for a hot drink and fellowship.

This week we start a new series, out of Galatians.

22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

- Galatians 5: 22-26

Paul writes about the battle between the flesh and the Spirit, that we are called to be free but we are not to use that freedom to indulge the flesh, but we are to keep in step with the spirit.

If we are to keep in step with the spirit, Paul tells us there is fruit that will grow in our lives, these characteristics that will develop over time. People will look at us and be able to see this fruit growing in us. This of course leads to the question – Are we growing in love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control?

Over the next couple of weeks we will be take each one of the fruit and asking ourselves, what and how we can grow these fruits in our lives.

Today there is a sign up sheet for the Church Fair in the foyer. There are lots of different things we can do and help with and when we all work together it makes the work load a lot easier for all. We are looking for people to help set up pack down, this will be a bit of an early start 7.30am but the work is not too hard. The church fair, if the weather is good, is a lot of fun and a great way for us as a church to get to know people from both congregations and from the community. We will be looking for people to bring in some baking for the cake stall, and of course if you have White Elephant stuff you can drop items off at the church hall. We will be having our grocery raffle so if you can bring food items that would be very helpful as well.

I will be away this week at the Clergy Conference up at the lake. If you need to contact me urgently you can do so through David in the office.

It’s school holidays until 10 October so there will be no Mainly Music or Prayer Meeting. Both will resume on Tuesday 11 October.

Make a note in your diary that we are going to be having a combined service on Sunday 23 October (Labour Weekend) starting with breakfast at 9.00am followed by the service at 10.00am.

Yours in Christ

Phil
