The Inside Column 24/7

Good morning and a very warm welcome to you.  We invite you to join us after the service for a hot drink and fellowship.

Back to school for most this week, hope everyone has served the holidays, well done you grandparents!

At the Special Parish Meeting on Thursday 3 March 2016, you will recall the church passed the following motion:

That the parishioners of St Barnabas Anglican Church agree to the sale of the Vicarage land and buildings to Nelson City Council.

This Motion was a part in the charge that vestry were following, to be able to sell the Vicarage and land. The next stage of the process was to go to standing Committee. Standing committee met last week, and advised us their decision:

After carefully considering the proposal, Standing Committee has decided not to support the present sale. This decision is primarily due to the land’s potential for future missional use in the parish, recognising the strategic importance of St Barnabas, the very exciting growth the parish has witnessed over the last few years and the hope that this will continue in years to come. Every member of the Committee expressed understanding of the financial pressures currently facing St Barnabas due to maintenance needs, and has asked the Diocesan Finance Team to advise ways in which the diocese might provide some financial help.

– So you might say the motion is dead in the water!

That being the case, we (vestry) will be looking at ways we can meet our ongoing maintenance costs and consider the best future use of the Vicarage.

You will see this week in the foyer the list of the jobs people have signed up for helping with Synod. Firstly, in advance – thank you all very much for your help over what will be a busy time. You will see the details of the assigned tasks, what is expected of you and what time and place you are needed. If you have any question’s please give me a call during the week.

At 6.00pm this Tuesday 26 July, we are having our second home group leaders training evening for all home group leaders and up and coming leaders. Graham O’Brien from BTC will be leading the evening. The evening starts with dinner at 6.00pm in the foyer. For details phone the office.

Yours in Christ

Phil
