The Inside Column 3/7

Good morning and a very warm welcome to you.  We invite you to join us after the service for a hot drink and fellowship.

A couple of weeks ago we looked at the conversion of Saul, the day he meet Jesus face to face and the dramatic transformation that happened. We read  about the events that followed in Acts 9:

Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.

As we have been reading through Acts I hope you have been encouraged by the stories of people’s lives being transformed by the living Jesus. We too are having our lives changed today by the living Jesus, I know this because many of you come and tell me about things that have been happening in your lives. I would love to be able to share some of these things as encouragements to us all, so if you have a testimony please do come and share it with me.

I have been greatly encouraged this month by watching Bishop Justin Duckworth’ speak on the topic of “The Church in Contemporary NZ: Perspectives and Challenges”, where he shares his thoughts on the church today. It was helpful to have a frame-work in which to place where I think our church is, and where we might be heading in the future. If you would like to watch the talk and think about where you think we as a church are at and what might be in store, it is well worth watching. You can find the talk on YouTube.

We are hosting Synod from Thursday 4 August through to Saturday 6 August and we need your help. Volunteer sign up sheets are in the foyer. We have broken the jobs down into different time slots; we will need a team leader for each of the different roles and small group of people to help. Please take time to look at the tasks  you could assist with. If you have any time at all it will be greatly appreciated – even a couple of hours will be helpful. Synod is also big fundraiser for the church so the more we can all do together the greater the funds raised.

Yours in Christ

Philip
