The Inside Column 29/5

Good morning and a very warm welcome to you.  We invite you to join us after the service for a hot drink and fellowship.

Last week we had Steve Mania from CMS speaking at both our services. He preached from Acts 5 and challenged us to be people that share our stories, with joy, perseverance and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.    Acts 5: 41-42

At the end of the 10.00am service we had a time of prayer, asking for opportunities and courage to share our stories, the Good News. I would like to ask for people to come and talk to me about any experiences you might have had over the last couple of weeks.

In Luke 10:1 we read that Jesus sent out 72 followers ahead of him to every town and place He was to go. Later in the chapter there is this account of the return of the 72.

17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”

And  then Jesus rejoices…

21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

Sharing our faith, telling others why we believe, giving people an opportunity to hear the Good news, through our words and actions, is something for us, as the body of Christ to rejoice about. I would love to be able to share some of these stories and for all of us to be encouraged and motivated to take these opportunities, this nudge of the Holy Spirit to share the love and truth we have received.

We are still looking for a youth worker, and there does not seem to be a lot of people around putting up their hands. Can I ask that we all keep this on top of our prayer lists for the next couple of weeks? Stephan Tanner is helping run our Sunday morning’s till the end of this term and we would love to have someone in place by then.

Next week we are having a shared Breakfast at 9.00am followed by a combined service at 10.00am.  A chance for both the congregations to spend some time fellowshipping together.

Yours in Christ

Philip
