The Inside Column 10/4

Good morning and a warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us today, we would love to get to know you. Please feel free to stay for a hot drink after the service.

Last week we started a new series out of the Book of Acts. I have found Acts to be one of those books you read the first couple of chapters, and we know them pretty well, all about the coming of the Holy Spirit. I don’t know the whole book very well, it’s the book I never  really get to the end of. A lot of people have read Acts and think, well that’s what we need to do, we need to live like they did, we should just copy what they did. Let’s all live together and share everything we have, should be fun right?

Many Christian communities have started with passages from Acts in the front of their minds.

Don’t know if it’s that simple, we live in a very different time and place, and I think there is more to it than just doing what they did. I think we can take the principles and apply them to how we live, but the practices might look very different, they might not look different at all, but it is the principle that drives the community of faith.

There is a great link of course with what we were looking at over Easter, with the death and resurrection of Jesus and we read in Acts about  what happened next. At some level it is Part two of the Gospels. The Gospels are the truth of what Jesus has done for us, they are what we believe. But this is only half of it, what we believe leads us to live out our lives in a certain way – The doing, the acting, and the living out of what we believe.

This question of life in his name, is one that is always before us, always challenging us, always calling us – how do we live this life?

When we read the Book of Acts, we see how the first disciples of Jesus live out what they believed about the risen Jesus. As we look into how the first disciples worked out their beliefs in there world, we can learn how we, can live out our daily lives in his name.

Over the next few weeks we will see there were some pretty amazing things the disciples got up to.

Don’t forget the AGM this Thursday at 7.00pm. All are welcome to attend the meeting. The AGM meeting agenda and reports booklets are in the foyer.

Yours in Christ

Philip
