The Inside Column 11/10

Good morning and a warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us today, we would love to get to know you. Please feel free to stay for a hot drink after the service.

The fair is fast approaching! In fact it’s this coming Saturday, so please bring in any remaining White Elephant items early this week so they can be sorted in time. Of course there is baking and sweets to make which are always popular. Make sure you know what stalls/activities you are helping out with. The list is in the foyer. We still need a couple of adults to help with the bouncy castle and overseeing children’s games with the youth group. If that could be you, please talk to me today. The fair is a great opportunity to mingle with our local community.

Next week marks a return to school for children and a sigh of relief for most parents! Our children’s and youth programmes resume next Sunday 18 October. On that note, at 4.30pm on Sunday afternoons we are now holding the church Youth Group. It is for intermediate and college aged youth (12-18years olds). We have just completed the Youth Alpha course at the end of last term and are moving on to a bible  study series. We are looking at David on Sunday afternoons and biblical characters who ‘did bold things’ on Sunday mornings.

Matthew 28:20-22 has been our theme verse for youth group this year…

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Three young people are going to be baptised at the end of November. This is great news! It is encouraging to have young people willing to publically witness and act upon their commitment to following Jesus. Baptism is a response to God in obedience to scripture. Have you been baptised or confirmed? If you would like to make a public declaration of your faith, please talk to our vicar Phil or myself after the service.

That’s all for now, but make sure during this week to: remember your tennis ball and jump into a raft – this helps us grow near to God!
