The Inside Column 5/7

Good morning and a warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us we would love to get to know you. Please feel free to stay for a hot drink after the service.

On Sunday 26 July at 5.30pm we are starting the Alpha Course. The Alpha Course is an evangelistic course which seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith through a series of talks and discussions. It is described as “an opportunity to explore the meaning of life”.

I’m sure that most of you have heard of the Alpha Course. The question I’m asking each and every one of us is; Is there someone you know that you could bring on the course?. Could we all start to pray and ask God for the name of one person in your life that you can start to pray for and invite to Alpha?

Once you know who you will invite go to the Alpha Shine Brightly Board in the foyer. Write the name of the person you can invite to Alpha on a lampshade and pin it back over the lightbulb. Invitations are available in the foyer. When you have invited someone and they agree to come, take the lampshade home and put it on your fridge and continue to pray daily for them.

What would the church look like filled with several groups of people all  exploring the meaning of life, asking questions about faith, and then having the opportunity to meet with the one true and living God? This course will be something of a high point for us as a church this year.

Safe Here Training update:

Modules 1 and 2: Everyone who works or volunteers in the children’s, youth ministries or ministry to the elderly is required to complete Module 1 and 2 of Safe Here Training. There are quite a few from St Barnabas who have not completed this training to date.

Modules 3 and 4: Only to be completed by the Vicar, Coordinator, Team Leaders (i.e. of children’s ministry, youth ministry and pastoral care to the elderly ministry) and the Safety Parish Officer. Not all have completed this training.

There have been a few challenges to date –

Getting all volunteers trained.

Online computer access challenges with logins – there is now a way to overcome this issue which is being implemented by Michele McDonald.

Actions for the next month:

The next Module 1 training will be held on Thursday 23 July 7.008:30pm in the St Barnabas foyer (to be run by Michele McDonald with assistance from Sue Fallow from the

Diocese).  It is hoped most St Barnabas volunteers who have not done this training will attend. Michele McDonald will contact all relevant volunteers.

Yours in Christ

Phil
