Good morning and a warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us we would love to get to know you. Please feel free to stay for a hot drink after the service.

Today is Pentecost – the day when ordinary people receive extraordinary power. There are many different aspects of the work of the Holy Spirit – He’s the presence of God with us, the Spirit giving us new birth, He changes us into the likeness of Jesus, and He gives spiritual gifts.

Before he ascended into heaven, Jesus said to his disciples, “You will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” It’s quite a promise! The disciples waited in Jerusalem as they had been told to do – and on Pentecost they received the gift of the Holy Spirit. It was a pretty amazing day. They all began to speak in tongues, a crowd gathered and when Peter explained what was happening, about 3,000 people accepted what he said and were baptised. On that day a tiny handful of disciples began, in the power of the Spirit, the greatest spiritual revolution the world has ever known.

They were ordinary people with extraordinary power and the promise was not just for them, it is for us today, we can know the same power the first disciples experienced today. As we think about Pentecost today, may our prayer be  that we will live our lives in the power of the Spirit.

Hey! Have you got your quiz team sorted out, are you starting to do the daily quiz in the newspaper, reading books on random facts? Today is the day to start getting you teams together for a great night of fun, and if you would like to make a donation for the prize table that would be great too. Don’t forget the date – Friday 26 June. Tickets from the office.

Thanks to all that have sponsored the youth doing the forty hour famine this weekend. It is good to see so many of them getting involved and making a sacrifice for the greater good.

The food bank is running pretty low. We have been able to help out a few  families over the last couple of months. If you would like to help to restock, the things we need are things like breakfast cereals, tinned fish, pasta, rice, noodles, tinned tomatoes and pasta sauce, baked beans and spaghetti, canned fruit, toilet paper, soap etc. Thank you!

Yours in Christ

Philip
