Good morning and a warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us we would love to get to know you. Please feel free to stay for a hot drink after the service.

Thanks to all that came to the AGM on Thursday night. For those of you that have not read or even seen the AGM reports here is an excerpt from my report.:

Do you know there is great joy in knowing God, and being one of his disciples? We have been set free; we know God’s love, His peace, His grace. Sometimes we can act like being a Christian is a bit depressing. I believe there is no greater calling or joy that we can have in this world, than knowing God and being known by God. This does not mean we don’t face trials and hurt and pain, but it is in these places we can meet with God and find a bigger hope for our lives.

Meeting with God, knowing him, therefore is first and foremost what we are about as a community of believers. This is why we pray, this is why we sing, this is why we preach, this is why we give, this is why we meet together in small groups and as a church on Sundays. This is why we make soup for others, this is why we clean the brass, this is why we welcome people, because we want to be a community that meets with God. As we worship, serve each other, give of ourselves, forgive, love the lost and down-trodden, we become the people God wants us to be.

The vision statement for St Barnabas reads – A place to meet God – Loving God, His people, His world. As a church community we long to be a place where anybody and everybody can meet with the one true and living God. It is only through meeting with God, that our lives can be transformed, healed; find holiness and find the true meaning for our lives. Meeting with God has to be the driving motivation behind all that we do as a community of disciples.

This is what we are working towards. Luke 11:9 says ‘So I say to you: ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” So my encouragement to as all this coming year is that we keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking, like the ad for the cricket says ‘dream big’, and let’s see what God will do in our lives and in the lives of the lost.

Yours in Christ

Philip
