The Inside Column 28/9

Good Morning and a very warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us today we pray you will feel at home here at St Barnabas. Please make yourself known and feel welcome to stay for tea or coffee after the service.

Today is Marianne James’ last day of paid employment for the church. I would like to thank her for all her hard work and the part she has played on the staff team here at St Barnabas. In her role as Rest Home Visiting Chaplain she has been able to meet the spiritual needs of many of the people she has made contact with.  Marianne and Geddes moved to Richmond at the end of last year and will now fellowship at Holy Trinity Richmond, but we will still see them from time to time.

We are still looking for people to donate for some more church chairs. We have already received donations and pledges for fifty chairs, so we are halfway to our goal. If you have been thinking about contributing, it would be helpful if you did so in the next week or two. Remember, all donations are tax deductable.

In the next couple of months we will be changing our coffee supplier from supermarket brands to fair-trade coffee supplied to us through the mission organisation Bright Hope World. We will see how this works out over the next couple of months.  If you are interested in buying fair-trade coffee yourself you can check out their website, www.brighthopeworld.com.

I am away for a couple of weeks from Wednesday 24 September until  Tuesday 7 October. My younger brother is getting married in Hamilton, so we are taking the family up to see the family and spend some time travelling around the North Island. If there is an urgent need Jonathan will be on call and Eric will also be available.

Now that we have read the Si Quis for Jonathan Wasley (Priest) & Victoria Askin (Deacon), ordination will take place during the Synod service at the Cathedral on Thursday,  9 October at 7.00pm. All are welcome. It would be great to have a good turnout of support for Jonathan and Victoria. We have been asked to provide supper (along with Richmond parish) for after the service. Please contact David in the office if you can help with providing finger food and/or help with serving on the night.

David, our Parish Administrator has new working Hours. The Church office will be open Tuesday and Wednesday 8.30am to 12.30pm, Thursday 8.30am to 5.00pm and Friday 1.30pm to 5.30pm.

I hope you get to spent some time with family over the school holidays.

Yours in Christ

Philip
