Good Morning and a very warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us today we pray you will feel at home here at St Barnabas. Please make yourself known and feel welcome to stay for tea or coffee after the service.

Two things this morning…

Firstly we are thinking of running a Guess who’s coming to dinner evening, I am sure some of you have been to this type of thing before. This is a fun evening open to everyone. The idea is that we have some people that host a dinner party and some people that go to the dinner party.  The host is in charge of the main meal and the guests will be given a dish to bring.

Anne Egan and Cathy King are organising this event. There are sign up cards  in the foyer. It is a great way for us to get to know some people we might not know that well. The date is Saturday 13 of September.  All welcome.

The second thing is we are running an Alpha course.  Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed 10 week course. Each session begins with a meal, providing an opportunity to get to know others in a casual setting. This is followed by a talk which examines a different aspect of the Christian faith, then open discussion where no question is too hostile or too simple. Someone ask me is this course for Christians and I said no it is for non–Christians and Christians? How do the non Christians get to hear about and come on the course? Well the best way if for us to invite them. The year is running out fast so we will be starting this course on Wednesday 27 August. We will start with a light meal from 6.30pm and I would like to encourage you to invite and bring someone you know. If you can’t come to the course then I would love it if you would pray for this course and the people attending. Invitations are in the foyer.

This week we start a series entitled Life Lessons. We will be looking at six key people of the Old Testament, beginning with Abraham.

Last week was gift day; there was $2200 in one off special donations gifted to the church and many people volunteering or recommitting their time and energies to the life of the church. Thanks to you all for your commitment to St Barnabas and to the out working of God’s Kingdom in our lives and the community we live in, thanks be to God.

Yours in Christ Phil

Philip
