The Inside Column 27/07

Good morning and a very warm welcome to you all. If you are a visitor we hope you will stay for a cuppa after the service.

Thanks to all that came along to the Quiz night. I am sure a good night was had by all. Our next big fundraiser is the Church Fair and we are looking for people to join the organizing committee. It is a great deal of fun. If you are interested give me a call.

Doesn’t the new carpet in the foyer look great? Someone asked me how we were paying for it. At the start of the year we received a very generous bequest from Edith Robinson a long time parishioner of St Barnabas. It is through her generosity that we have been able to get the new carpet.

Speaking of finances… we are going to have our annual Gift Day on Sunday 10 August. This is the one time of year we ask you to think about your giving to the church to think about how you could increase your weekly giving. You may like to consider a one off financial gift.

You will recall the scripture I shared with you last week from 2 Corinthians 6: 7-8
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

I would ask that if you are a member of St Barnabas that you would prayerfully review your giving. We would love as many people as possible to give regularly, either by direct credit (Bank details are in the pew sheet). Or through the envelope system. Next week we will have a financial update for you to see how we are tracking financially for the year, and then on Gift Day we will celebrate all that is happening through your generosity.

I have been thinking about running an Alpha Course sometime in the near Future. If you are interested please let me know and I can put a start date in the dairy. The Alpha Course is a course which seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith and is described by its organizers as “an opportunity to explore the meaning of life”. It is a great way to investigate what the Christian faith is all about.

God Bless

Philip
