Good morning and a very warm welcome to you all. If you are a visitor we hope you will stay for a cuppa after the service.

We welcome today with anticipation and a quiet hope and expectation, for today at a special evening service starting at 6.30pm, Philip Greenwood will be commissioned as our Vicar. This will complete months of prayer and deliberation to select the next vicar of St Barnabas. Those of us who were charged with the task of finding a vicar feel that we have been led to make the choice we have, and when the news was announced two weeks ago, the very positive responses from the respective congregations totally confirmed the decision.

In the years that Philip has been with us ,we have observed this young man grow in grace and strength in the power of the Holy Spirit. He is noted for his humility, care and love for those around him. Greta is his help and strength, making a strong partnership for the times ahead. With their boys: Theo, Lewis, Clay, Reuben and Hugh we have a family to enjoy and be proud of. We pray for rich blessings on them and us in their ministry to us.

Tonight also in the service, Jonathan Wasley, our Curate, will become a Priest, and Victoria Askin will become a Deacon. In the past two years we have been blessed to have these two young people working in our midst, Jonathan for his work involving the youth of Stoke and Victoria for her involvement in music as our Worship leader. May God continue to bless them both in their vocation to serve Him in their chosen path. Worship and Celebration are fundamental to a Christian’s life. The opportunities are always there, sometimes they are not as obvious to us as they might be, but God be praised, there is no way to not recognise the opportunities we are given today.

Tonight in this important service in the continuing story of the involvement of our church with our God, may we respond with joyful Celebration and Worship to our Lord and Saviour.

‘Sing joyfully to the Lord you righteous;
it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the Lord with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song
play skillfully, and shout for joy.

For the word of the Lord is right and true;
he is faithful in all he does.
The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of his unfailing love.

We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our hope and shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord,
Even as we put our hope in you.’
-Psalm 33.

Remember: Bring yourself and your contribution for the Shared Meal at 5.00pm, prior to the
Celebration Service at 6.30pm

Yours in Christ
