The Inside Column…

Good Morning and a very warm welcome to all. If you are visiting with us today we pray you will feel at home here at St Barnabas. Please make yourself known and feel welcome to stay for tea or coffee after the service.

Over the last couple of months we have been working our way through the book of Mark. I hope you have been reading through the gospel as we have been working our way through it.  We are going to take a break from Mark as we head into the Christmas season but we will be coming back to Mark next year. There is still a lot for us to look at.

Can you believe that Christmas is only four weeks away? As we celebrate the season of Advent, we have some additional events in the lead up to Christmas day. On Wednesday 11 December we will have ‘Shine’ (Carols on the Lawn) from 6.00pm. Then on Sunday 15 December we have our traditional Christingle family service at 10.00am. On Christmas Eve Tuesday 24 December we have our midnight candlelight service with communion at 11.00pm. Our Christmas Day service will be at a communion service on 25 December at 9.30am.

Christmas is of course a time for us to be a witness to the wider community that don’t normally come to church. Pray for our Christmas services. Invite your neighbours, friends and family to join with us as we celebrate the birth of Christ together.
Last year we were able to give many of the youth Jonathan works with a small gift of toiletries like deodorant, toothbrushes, soap, and fragrances. We would love to be able to do this again, so if you would like to donate to this you can bring your gift and put it in the food basket on Sunday or come and drop it of a the office.

Don’t forget to sign up for the upcoming February church camp at Kaiteriteri. A limited number of cabins are still available and these are being allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. We are starting to get phone calls from the other church people as the camp is open to the Nelson and Waimea deaneries – so get in quickly!

For you information the church office will be closed from the 24 December until 21 January 2014. Marianne James and Jonathan will be looking after any emergencies over this time. Their phone numbers are on the back of the pew sheet..

God Bless
Philip
