The Inside Column 21/7

Good morning and a warm welcome to church today. Please stay and have a hot drink with us at the end of the service.

We read in 2 Corinthians 9: 6-8 these words encouraging generosity.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

And God is able to bless you  abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Next Sunday is our combined celebration Gift Sunday. This is the one Sunday of the year we ask everyone to think about their giving to the church. Not just financial giving, but the giving of time and  abilities as well.

Our finances have been very blessed year to date. We are pretty much keeping up with our Budget. As many of you know, we were able to pay back a large debt we had to the Diocese at the start of the year, through a one off donation, so there is much to give thanks for.

What I am asking everyone  to do is to prayerfully consider your giving, your weekly giving and to review and renew your commitment.

If you call St Barnabas ‘home’ and you are not giving to the church, may I  encourage you to do so. Next Sunday is also a chance for us to think about making a one off over and above your normal giving – a gift to the work of the church.

There are pledge cards in the foyer. Please take one and bring in your completed card on Sunday 28 July.

Tonight  at 6.30pm Bishop Derek Eaton will give the first talk in his five week study series on Life after Death. It’s also a great opportunity to invite friends and family. All are welcome to attend.

Remember Pray Day on Thursday 25 July. Thanks to those who have already signed up on the list on the notice-board. We still need more people to sign up to pray during the day.

Have a great week!

Philip
