The Inside Column 7/4

Good morning and a very warm welcome to all.

Easter Camp! Excitement was in the air! By 8:30am on Thursday, I was joined by a collection of 30 young people, many of them dressed up in one piece animal suits (one-zies) or Victorian style dress costumes. By 9:15 am we where away! 36 people headed by road from Nelson down to camp together at Spencer Park, Christchurch.

The camp was well run, and a place of growth and development for young people, both in fellowship and faith. We stayed in tents with a marquee as a group meeting space. Our group took part in a sports competitions, mud wrestling, toastie-pie eating, ping-pong, attending teaching sessions each day and singing/worship. One young person commented how much they enjoy worshipping with other young people (about four and a half thousand other people that is!). I have to agree, it was a worthwhile experience. Thank you so much for all your financial support and prayer, without it we would not have had such a great journey of learning, fun and excitement.

House 44 has been struggling – the Trust Board has been challenged to step up their involvement. There is some disagreement within the community as to how the House should be running. Please pray that the leaders receive God’s guidance in this. It is important that things are resolved quickly for continuance of funding and community support.

The community youth after school programme continues operating three days of the week – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. As the weather gets a bit colder and the days shorter we will no doubt move inside more often. One of our core youth worker team members, Namu, has just completed her Youth Work Leadership Certificate at level three. It has been great to see her growing and learning more, we celebrate with her in this great achievement.

We continue in this year’s goal of developing and growing combined fortnightly St Barnabas youth activities with Victory, Tahunanui and Stoke parishes. We are also forming a youth band!   Sunday morning bible study has been looking at heroes of the Bible, so far we have encountered the likes of Gideon, Abraham and Daniel… who will be next?

Please pray for; the youth who have been to Easter camp, as they return to school, and also those who wanted to come but were unable, for House44 – that the leadership and vision would become solid, for Matthew, Renee, Victoria, Antonia, Namu, and myself in our work that we might be filled and enabled by God in what we do.

Yours in Christ

Jonathan
