The Inside Column 24/2

Good morning and welcome. In this week’s column Jonathan has provided an update on his activities…

This term is a busy one. We have Easter Youth Camp coming up from 28 March to the 1 April. This is an amazing opportunity for youth to spend four days of fun, focused on God and fellowships with others. The details: It costs $130 each for camp (includes food) and $30 each for transportation on a bus taking Anglican youth groups to the event in Christchurch. If money is a barrier please don’t let that stop you. We invite members of the congregation to support youth in perhaps offering to help fund transport ($30).

House44 is in a time of transition with new leadership. I have heard reports from youth leaders of how thankful youth were for the generous donations of Christmas gifts. Thanks to you expressing love with practical gifts, the teenagers smell better and have a smile on their faces! Youth groups at the house start up next week.

The community youth after school programme is now operating three days of the week – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. The extra day, means we need to provide more food, and creatively shift staff to manage the group. We still have steady numbers of over fifteen youth each day. A BIG thank you to those who have supported this project by offering prayer, money and food to support and create a hospitable place for young people in Stoke.

This year we are combining our fortnightly St Barnabas Youth activities night with Victory and Tahunanui churches. By combining our resources we are able to build unity and enable youth ministry (which can be quite draining at times) to be possible. This means that now on Friday nights there will be four leaders, Renee and Matt (from Victory) and Victoria and Myself (St Barnabas). Having more than one leader is a welcome change that should expand the possibilities of what the group can do safely.

Sunday morning Bible study groups also commence again this coming week, running weekly during term time.

Please pray:

  • For the Youth Leader’s Team and the youth as the meet again together.
  • For House44, particularly that Juliette the new manager transitions well and she doesn’t get swamped or burnt out.
  • For Danny Tanner as he recovers from a heart operation.

Thanks and Blessings!

Jonathan
