The Inside Column 10/2

Good morning and a very warm welcome to all.

Over the last couple of week we have been looking at chapter 10 of Hebrews starting at verse 19:

A Call to Persevere in Faith

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Without really thinking about it, as God has led me and as I have looked more closely at this passage, I have seen that it contains the three key ingredients that we as a church and disciples of Jesus, want to enter in to this year. Firstly, draw near and have intimacy with God. Secondly, consider how we may spur one another on toward love, good deeds and missions. Thirdly, not giving up meeting together or engaging in community. These three things are important if we want to be a genuine community of faith. I don’t normally speak like this but I think God has been telling me, this is what He wants for us as a church.

On reflection, these three things are not new, but I do think we are being called to re-think how we can best achieve these three things this year. Would you pray with me over the next weeks and months that we will be faithful to all that God wants for us this year at St Barnabas.

Remember +Richard is preaching at both services next Sunday.

Yours in Christ
