Good morning and a very warm welcome to all this morning.

We welcome today Bishop Derek. Derek brings a wealth of biblical knowledge to us this morning and I am a bit sad that I can’t be with you to hear him this morning. I know he will be a blessing to us all.

Here is a ‘heads up’ on what is coming up over the Christmas season…

  • On Tuesday 18 December is Shine-Carols on the Lawn. This will be a great event for you to bring you friends and family too. We have the traditional Brass Band leading the carols, and two other bands playing afterwards so you can enjoy an evening in the sun, sitting and listening to live music. There will be activities for the children, grandchildren, and teenagers. We have a bouncy castle, The Truck will be here with all their toys for the teenagers, there will be a free BBQ for everyone cooked by our People’s Warden Simon Merry and his team. All in all it will be a bit of a party for the community as we share the good news of the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus.  What a great reason to have a party.
  • On Sunday 23 December we are having a combined 9.30am Christingle Carol Service followed by a Christmas morning tea. This will be a chance for the St Barnabas family to be together at the same time and celebrate as one, the birth of Jesus. I encourage you all to make the effort to come along. We are the family of God in this place, and although we might have different worship preferences, I think it is  good for us to put aside our own wants and come together in unity to celebrate.
  • On Monday 24 December at 11.00pm we have our traditional Carols by Candlelight Communion Service. On Christmas Day we will have a Family Communion Service from 9.30am, with something special for the children.
  • Services over the Christmas-New Year period (30 December, 6 & 13 January) will be at  9.30am each Sunday. These will be a Prayer Book services, and we will go back to our 8.30am traditional and 9.45am contemporary services on Sunday 23 January.

Don’t forget Jonathan’s Graduation Ceremony is on Friday 14 December at 7.00pm at the Cathedral. I know Jonathan has worked hard in his studies and would love to see as many as can, attend to see him and others graduate.

Yours in Christ

Philip
