The Inside Column 4/11

Good morning and a very warm welcome to all.

With the success of the fair – our big fundraiser for the year, it is timely to report on our financial position and how we are tracking against budget. Doug Johns (Finance Committee Chairman), has prepared this report:

  • The budget for 2012 was set in October last year based on there being a similar set of costs and expenses to 2011.
  • The change in leadership at St Barnabas resulted in some additional unbudgeted costs which have impacted on our results. (The Diocese are considering part or full reimbursement of the $15,000 additional costs). The first eight months of this financial year are tabled below.
  • Through the continued efforts and the generosity of our congregation, particularly a one off gift in June, we have seen a significant turning around in the fortunes of our finances for which we are grateful.
  • At the end of September our Diocese of Nelson debt (including last year’s deficit) stood at $31,188. Our 2012 year to date deficit was $15,170. With the $8,000 income from the fair and  Diocesan and St Barnabas parishioner’s continued support, we may be able to achieve a breakeven result for the year.

This will indeed be a blessing given the challenges faced earlier in the year.

I have had a great time at New Wine this week. Mark Bailey was the keynote speaker. He  leads Trinity, Cheltenham, a vibrant Anglican church in the South West of the UK.  He shared some inspiring ideas and insights into the Kingdom.

Have a great week

Yours in Christ

Philip
