Good morning and a warm welcome to all!

Youth Worker update…

House44 Boy’s night has been a struggle due to an increase in drug usage. Some of the boy’s have recently been taken into custody for serious offences and are awaiting sentencing. One is out on bail and two others are still in custody. The overall influence on the group has been a challenge to handle. Please pray for the ability to deal with behaviours that harm the youth and for youth workers and youth alike.  Ask that we may connect in positive manner through which there can be personal development, growth and hope for these boys. Our team is now Antonia and Antonio alongside Jean and myself.

There is the opportunity to apply for a community grant toward some improvements on the St Barnabas hall in order to make it more useful as a facility to the public and specifically for physical activities involving youth (such as the youth programmes and events that are currently using it supported by House 44, Presbyterian Support, NCC and St Barnabas).

Numbers attending the after school programme have been steady, averaging about 8-15 youth this term. House 44 has applied for some funding toward extending the days the afterschool youth group to other days of the week.

Church Youth saw a great turn out for the 80’s REWIND dinner. The regressive dinner had an eighties dress theme. Starting with dessert at St Barnabas consisting of some amazing chocolate brownies made by the Suckling’s accompanied by ice cream. A regression to the Greenwood’s followed with a roast banquet and a quick fashion parade before further regressing on to the Millener’s for an amazing selection of entrées. The youth seemed to really enjoy the evening which was very educational. Danny Tanner won the ‘golden REWIND tape’ award for his Run DMC style dress, with bling and a ghetto blaster that could actually play genuine tapes! Nathan and his crew were awarded the team prize for their Miami Vice attire. Also of note was Yazze and Annie’s attire, some splashes of fluoro in there and Jordy sporting the best eighties mullet I have seen in a long time!

The first week of August the youth went to Grace Church to see ‘Excel’ – a visiting Christian performing arts group. Thanks for those involved in helping with extra transport the last couple of youth group events, it has been much appreciated.

Yours in Christ

Jonathan
